Our mission is the stabilization, commercial revitalization & economic growth of the commercial corridor, and the surrounding community, of Westchester Square. We feel these efforts, along with the formation of a Business Improvement District, will radiate into the surrounding commercial strips and create a united, stronger and more secure northeast Bronx for small business to thrive and elevate the quality of life for the residents as well.

A meeting was held, by CM Vacca in the fall of 2007, to discuss the decline, and blight, of Westchester Square. Concerned business leaders the Bronx Business Alliance and CM Vacca formed a committee to formulate a plan of action. Distressed by the dilapidated state of the Square, it saw the need to reactivate the merchants association, educate the merchants to the benefits, and importance, of an active organization to create a viable force to forge the way for commercial revitalization efforts needed, not only to turn Westchester Square back into the shopping, and dining destination, it once was, but a cultural attraction as well.

Aided by the BBA, an aggressive agenda was carried out to convey this message, to the merchants and landlords, resulting in the first of our now monthly meetings in December 2007. The impact of uniting was immediate. We elected a new board and soon after were enrolled in NYC Clean Streets program. We applied for, and were granted, funding from Avenue NYC, for FY 2009, to pursue the process for the formation of a BID. We have formed partnerships with the Bronx Business Alliance, the Bronx Council on the Arts, Westchester Square/Zerega Improvement Organization, the Committee for Community Development & Growth, Community Board #10, NYC Department of Parks & Recreation, neighboring merchant groups (Pelham Bay, Throggs Neck, Morris Park, City Island and Castle Hill) and the Bronx Merchant Coalition to sponsor events, promotions and initiatives to enhance the revitalization efforts. We spearheaded, and coordinated, efforts to assist the merchants displaced by a disastrous fire, March 22, 2009, with NYC Small Business Services and other agencies.
